MORIAH - Severe flooding struck the region Wednesday April 27 after an evening thunderstorm dumped several inches of rain. Here, Moriah resident Anna Mayhood narrowly escaped plunging into a deep ravine created when the Broad Street Bridge was washed out by raging flood waters.
School was later cancelled as busses were unable to transport children past the washed out road to the school building beyond.
In a separate incident, Mineville-Witherbee Fire Chief Paul Tromblee was injured when a portion of Witherbee Road near Silver Hill Road gave way and Tromblee drove his car into the washout. He was returning from aiding a resident with a cellar pump out, officials said.
