Thurman Easter party draws crowd

THURMAN-A beloved holiday tradition is apparently thriving in Thurman.

The town Easter party held Saturday, April 16 attracted a capacity crowd to the town hall, with 81 children and far more adults attending, local officials said.

"It was huge - we were packed to the doors and had to set up more tables to accommodate everyone," organizer Becky Hitchcock said, noting the party drew more attendees than in many prior years.

Children dyed Easter eggs and decorated them along with Easter bags they fashioned. They also enjoyed refreshments, followed by hunting no less than 800 eggs hidden outside the town hall. Children also participated in the Easter bonnet contest, showing off their garb to members of the Warren County Youth Court who served as judges.

Winning first place in the age 0-4 category of the competition was Whitney Cameron, followed by Maria Fruda and Kayla Arnold in the older age group, Desirae Prosser was chosen.

Winning a drawing for Easter baskets filled with goodies and games were Whitney Cameron, Brent Ackley, Skyler Castro, Matthew Dobrec, Desirae Prosser, and Donald Carpenter. The door prize of an Easter bunny house was won by the Eastman family. In another contest, Catherine Hall provided the closest guess to the actual number of jelly beans contained in a jar.

People of all ages enjoyed the traditional holiday activities, said Hitchcock, who helped organize the event on behalf of the town Youth Commission.

"Everyone had a really good time," she said. "People stayed until well after 3 p.m."
