Man gets 10 years for child pornography

ADIRONDACK- Bruce E. Smith, 50, of Adirondack, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Albany to 121 months in prison to be followed by 50 years on parole after he pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography.

Smith was charged with forcibly sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman at his home in 2008, a case that is still pending in Horicon Town Court. He was arrested in July 2009 on a federal felony weapons charge when he was found to have a rifle despite a felony conviction that prohibits him from possessing a firearm. He was also arrested in 2009 after the state police found that he had downloaded hundreds of child pornography files over the Internet, and he pleaded guilty to a felony charge in that case last May. Finally, he was arrested last May 17 on a misdemeanor charge of public lewdness for allegedly exposing his genitalia to a group of hikers, including one child, at a state trailhead in Horicon, police said.

Smith will have to register as a sex offender as part of his federal sentence.
