County inks rail contract

Overall, the contract was a great compromise, according to Johnsburg Supervisor Sterling Goodspeed.

"The tourist train has always been nice, but to see a proposal with that kind of depth is exciting," he said.

Once a considerable concern among local residents and business owners, the absence or delay of an operator would cancel many traditional events. Many viewed the train as having a significant economic impact on communities like North Creek.

Iowa Pacific plans to continue train-related events like Race the Train and Thomas the Tank or events of the like as well introduce commuter and ski trains to the lines.
