'Seniors of the Year' banquet set

The annual Senior of the Year luncheon to honor area seniors contributing to their communities in Warren and Hamilton counties, is set for May 19 beginning at 11:30 a.m. Reservations are due by May 3. The event, which includes honoring Loon Lake resident Fred Hoenigman, 88, for 25 years of service to Meals on Wheels, is to be held at Fort William Henry Hotel in Lake George village. After a quarter-century delivering meals to the homebound, Hoenigman is retiring from the service he provides. To be awarded as Outstanding Contributing Senior is Maureen Mihalics of Diamond Point, who was nominated by three senior groups in the area. BCSstudents pass reading goal

Bolton Elementary students recently responded with enthusiasm to a reading challenge event, surpassing a goal set by the school faculty. In the reading challenge, they read a total of 10,644 minutes. Bolton Central Guidance Counselor Michelle Borgh and school Principal Damian Switzer agreed to be slimed in front of the students if they reached their goal of 6,000 minutes - which they nearly doubled. Switzer and Borgh were reportedly good sports as the students gleefully watched them having buckets of gooey green slime poured over them.
