NEWRUSSIA - A Vermonter's request to change the name of Bald Peak to Twisted Cedar Peak was turned down April 14 by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names due to lack of support. Hiker John Pennucci, who made the request, did so because three other mountains bear the name Bald Peak in Essex County. The State Department of Environmental Conservation, the towns of Moriah, Elizabethtown, and the Essex County Board of Supervisors all opposed the change.
