SCHROON LAKE - The Schroon Lake baseball team has been the region's most consistent winner in regular season play the past few years, but playoff success has eluded the Wildcats.
Coach Mike Sharp, coming after a 10-0 Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference season in 2010, believes that will change this spring.
"Late of late-season hitting has hurt us the past two years, so we hope to improve on that aspect," Sharp said. "We're looking for another strong year. We have a solid returning roster. Hopefully we'll keep the bats going all year long."
Schroon has 11 players back from last season's 15-2 overall club.
Pitching figures to be strength for the 'Cats. Lance Paradis, Wesley Beers, Matt Savarie and Jeffery Armstrong return to the mound. All enjoyed success last season.
"We should have another strong year of pitching," Sharp said.
The infield should be solid with Savarie, Armstrong, Jimmy Bowen and Joe DeZalia back in 2011. They're joined by rookies Jarrod Fowler, Nathan Wilson and Lucas Wilson.
Paradis, Wesley Beers, Chris Veverka and Dylan Jack lead a veteran outfield. New to outfield positions are Eric Paradis and Mitchell Beers.
Catching will be Anthony Vanderwalker, Jeremy Tyrrell and Zach Hart. All played last season.
Assisting Sharp in the dugout this spring is Eric Mullen.
