Schroon church to present Lenten play

SCHROONLAKE-A Schroon Lake church will present its Lenten message in a play.

Schroon Lake Community Church members will perform "The Ragman" on Maundy Thursday, April 21, at 7 p.m.

"It's a moving, contemporary narrative of a 'man of the cloth' who reaches out to help others regardless of the cost to him," explained Carole Ann Greig, chairwoman of worship at the church.

The presentation will include scripture readings by Pastor Terry Mosholder.

Greig hopes Schroon Lake residents, including those who belong to other churches, attend.

"It is part of my responsibility as chair of worship to be supportive of the ministry and congregation in different areas of worship," Greig said. "A small group of us meet, do long-range planning, then try to be creative and attentive to the church, community and the world.

"This pantomime style play\Narrative is one of our ways to achieve that goal," she added. "Our committee decided to share it (the play) on Maundy Thursday evening so that persons from other churches and communities might be able to attend. In past years the church has had Communion, a Seder meal, and congregational scripture reading. This is, we believe, the first time for the Easter message to be performed in this medium.

"The goal is to make this evening available to persons beyond our congregation," Greig said. "The participants, however, are all from our church family.  It is simply staged, the narrator provides the words, the players provide the physical emotion and movements with minimal costumes and props."

The performance will feature Dave Insull as the Ragman, Liz Insull as the Crying Woman, Malena Gereau as the Young Hunt Girl, John Milson as the One Arm Man, Pete Johnson as the Old Man and Mary Gereau as the Woman.

Sandy Crooks and Dave Moffat will provide music. Greig is the narrator.
