Breaking Noah Rondeau's Code

NORTHCREEK-Dave Greene will hold a power point program at Tannery Pond Community Center Saturday, April 23 from 7 - 8 p.m. on how he broke the secret code of Adirondack hermit Noah John Rondeau. He will also teach the audience how to decipher the sometimes diabolically tricky code for themselves.

Rondeau is a widely known Adirondack hermit. He kept extensive journals over a period of several decades, many of which were written in letter-substitution ciphers he created.

Greene grew up in the Adirondacks at his family's camp near Crane Mountain and graduated from Johnsburg Central School in 1987. After attending Deep Springs College and Cornell University, he was living a hermit himself one summer while assisting his grandfather, Paul Schaefer, during the rest of the year.

The program is a benefit for the Adirondack Lake Assessment Program, a volunteer water quality testing program, which is a partnership between Protect the Adirondacks and the Adirondack Watershed Institute and Paul Smiths College.
