Owens to host teleconference with constituents

North Country Representative Bill Owens will host a telephone town hall meeting with constituents from across New York's 23rd Congressional District today.

Owens plans to update callers on the state of Medicare, specifically as it relates to recent budget discussions in Washington.

The Democrat will take questions from constituents between 11 a.m. and noon Thursday.

"There are many unanswered questions for upstate New York Medicare beneficiaries as Washington moves forward with crafting a 2012 budget proposal," Owens said in a prepared statement, noting that today's event aims to provide answers on how proposed budget cuts could affect Medicare, Social Security, and other federal programs.
