Lions Club to sell bunnies for charity

SCHROONLAKE-The Easter Bunny will be hopping into Schroon Lake to help a local civic group help others.

The Town of Schroon Lions Club will sell chocolate bunnies April 9 and 10 and April 16 and 17 at the Schroon Lake Grand Union 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Easter Bunny will make an appearance each Saturday 10 a.m. to noon and each Sunday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to meet children and have his photo taken with them. Parents should bring their own cameras, according to Lion DeeDee Cheviron, sale chairwoman.

Because the Lions are involved in eye-sight issues, the Easter Bunny will have a free pair of "bunny glasses" for each child while supplies last.

Milk chocolate and white chocolate bunnies will be sold for $4 each and sugar-free and dark chocolate bunnies will $3.

"We've been doing the chocolate bunny sale for years, however this is the first year that I am aware of that we've advertised it," Cheviron said. "For many of the locals it's a tradition. I put it out on our Facebook page as an event, and I'm starting to get replies such as 'It wouldn't be Easter around here if I didn't get one of the Lions chocolate bunnies (and one for myself!).'"

The Easter Bunny actually attended a March meeting of the Town of Schroon Lions Club.

"He made a surprise visit to help plan the up-coming chocolate bunny sale," Cheviron said. "He had some excellent ideas to make this the best sale ever."

The proceeds from the sale will be used to help fund Lions Club projects, including scholarships to graduating seniors, camperships to state Department of Environmental camp and the Boy Scout camp, ye glasses for the less fortunate, hearing aids, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and others. All money earned from Lions Club fundraisers is spent on charitable projects, Cheviron said.
