Snowmobile association taps new trails coordinator

James Rolf of Rome has been chosen as the new trails coordinator for the New York State Snowmobile Association.

Former Trails Coordinator Dave Perkins said Rolf brings a great deal of experience to the job, including a vast knowledge of trails in the Adirondack Park.

"He should do well in service to the 230-plus snowmobile clubs in New York," Perkins said.

The trail coordinator's primary job is to work with clubs in the field to ensure the consistent condition of snowmobile trails throughout the state.

Rolf was selected from over seventy individuals who had submitted their credentials to the association's Hiring Committee.

His extensive trail-related experience includes 17 years as trails coordinator for his local snowmobile club and 12 years on the Rome Sand Plains Management team with members from the Nature Conservancy, the Canal Corporation, the state Department of Environmental Conservation, and the state Department of Transportation.

Rolf said he looks forward to expanding snowmobile opportunities across the state while minimizing the sport's impact on the landscape.
