Ti Knights to open renovated home

TICONDEROGA - The Ticonderoga Knights of Columbus have a new home thanks to members.

The Knights of Columbus hall on Montcalm Street, constructed in 1920, has been renovated.

"All the guys are tremendously proud of what has been accomplished," said Rollin Slattery, grand knight. "It came out great."

Knights will formally open their renovated building with a public dinner Saturday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. People can call the hall at 585-6520 for reservations.

The renovated building includes a council room, office space, new rest rooms, a kitchen, a lounge and a banquet room. It is handicap accessible and has access to the recently-constructed parking lot at the rear of the building. A new heating system has also been installed.

The second floor lounge and third floor banquet hall have been closed.

Still to be completed is front facade work. That should be done in a few weeks, Slattery said.

"In my 30 years of building and renovation this project is right at the top of great jobs," said Slattery, a contractor. "A lot of that has to do with the guys who worked on it. They did a great job."

Ti's Knights of Columbus has 317 members. More than 120 made financial contributions to the $170,000 project and others provided labor.

Slattery said the Knights hope to be a more visible and active member of the downtown community. With seating for 175 people, the hall will be available to the public for wedding receptions, anniversary gatherings, birthday parties, class reunions and other events.

The lounge will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights starting at 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 8 p.m. for members and their guests. The new lounge has a custom-made bar by Frank McCabe and has two large, flat-screen TVs to watch sporting events.

The building committee included Slattery, McCabe, Pete Reale, Joe Carroll, John Lenhart, Ralph Corbo, Tracy Smith, PJ Graney, Dave Baird, Dave Iuiliano, Dick Liddell, Ron Sorensen, Bill Scripter, Don Cook, Jim Laundry, Bob Lamb and Dave Rutkowski.
