Harry Alger of Bowen Hill Road, who is recovering from surgery, sends a message of appreciation for support from the community during his illness. He's back at home after having undergone five-way bypass surgery at Albany Medical Center plus a stay at Glens Falls Hospital.

Alger expresses heartfelt thank you's to the many folks who prayed for his recovery; to his wife and children who stayed by his side; to family and good neighbors who helped at the homestead, to the many who stopped in to visit and sent cards, to the pastor and his wife, and special thanks to Thurman EMS for getting to his home so quickly and probably saving his life. And most of all, thanks to God for giving the surgeons the skill to perform the operation, he said this week.

Activities and events in the hills

There are two Halloween parties in the planning stages at this time. One is to be Saturday, Oct. 23, and yet another Sunday, Oct. 31. As information comes in we'll fill you in. Meanwhile you have time to make an original costume that is really creative and unique!

Coming up next weekend, Oct. 9 and 10, is the Thurman Fall Farm Tour. Visit farms and view the animals from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in various sites all over town. You can also visit other businesses, such as sugar houses, tree farms and galleries. A pancake breakfast is to occur beginning at 9 a.m. at the Valley Road Maple Farm. Free maps will be available for the tours.
