Long Lake welcomes soap opera stars to An Adirondack Affair

LONG LAKE - Award winning soap opera stars will meet in Long Lake to celebrate daytime drama, love triangles and years of television success while showing local fans the ins and outs of show business Oct. 1 and 2 at "An Adirondack Affair."

The town of Long Lake has teamed with the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts two time Emmy award winner, Martha Byrne, Emmy-nominated Ellen Dolan and Emmy award wwinner Michael Park from the soap screen to the heart of the Adirondack Park.

Oct. 1 will delve behind the scenes for a look at soap operas and their production.

"There will be crazy stories about the daily routine, the backstage dirt and we will unveil the truth about what went wrong and why so many of our favorite "soaps" are disappearing," said Alexandra Roalsvig of Long Lake tourism.

Roalsvig is a Long Lake native who returned to the region after working several years with the production of soap operas and daytime dramas.

"We are going to give people an inside look at soap operas from their first stages to the final air," said Byrne. "I think our events will interest even those who didn't watch the shows."

She has also worked on General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful. Beginning her daytime career at age 15, Byrne is eager to answer the many questions most people have about the industry.

Saturday workshops include acting, directing and writing workshops with Emmy-winning writer Tom Casiello from The Young and the Restless, and Emmy-nominated directing talent Fritz Brekeller from All My Children.

Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy one-on-one time with soap stars, get to know the actors in a small town setting.

The event is making its debut in the Adirondacks after the work of Roalsvig and the actors are pleased to make appearances.

"Long Lake is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever visited," said Byrne. "I am excited to get together with old friends and celebrate something that I dedicated my life to."
