Local ag events growing in popularity

This was the first year of the Addison County Ag Showcase at Bourdeaus' and Bushey, Inc. in Middlebury. This was a joint event with Feed Commodities International (FCI) of Middlebury and Bourdeaus' and Bushey, Inc.

The event showcases the products and services of both businesses through inviting product suppliers and displaying the knowledge and equipment from the businesses.

In the first year of this event, Bourdeaus' and Bushey was able to display the products and services of 45 suppliers during the daylong event.

The goal of the event is to bring together these suppliers, Bourdeaus' and Bushey, Inc staff, FCI staff, and most importantly the farming community.

This year, B&B invited over 700 producers to join us for the Addison County Ag Showcase and had over 600 producers in attendance throughout the day. The event stimulated discussion among producers, ag industry professionals, and political representatives.

The first Addison County Ag Showcase was a success and local farmers and agribusiness personnel look forward to an even better event in 2011.

In addition to the Showcase, this was the fifth year of the Equine Round-Up event at Bourdeaus' and Bushey. This year's event featured educational seminars about pasture and weed management for horse farms and a demonstration of classic dressage, as the basis for all English Equestrian Disciplines by, Jutta Lee of Appledore Farm in Woodstock.

There were daylong demonstrations of horseshoe making and grooming, as well as cart and wagon rides available from a wide range of horse sizes.

This year Bourdeaus' and Bushey invited over 300 horse enthusiasts and had an attendance of more than 200 people.

In addition to the seminars and demonstrations, the horse event also gave animal owners a chance to interact with a variety of horse suppliers to get questions answered about nutrition, insurance, and animal care.
