Garden Corner 9-25-10

Well, today was a great day. We put the finishing touches on the ski bowl project. Al and Rick from the highway department, with the help of Matt from Gore, placed a huge garnet boulder near the door of the Ski Bowl Building. Everyone should go up and see this beauty!

I get excited when a plan comes together, nothing like a big garnet rock to make me happy. This summer, Youth Works volunteers helped us with a project at the new Ski Bowl building. We dug out around the building and put in about eight inches of cobble stone, thanks to Leon from Morin Trucking and our own town highway guys. Leon has really helped the town out this year with his work at the library and donating the cobblestones for the Ski Bowl. Thanks Leon!

I asked Chuck Barton if he would donate one of the museum quality boulders to be displayed on the corner of the Ski Hut building. We got the OK and Dan sent a crew up to pick this monster up. It was no easy task. Al broke the winch and had to go get the big bucket loader.

Chuck has been a great addition to Barton Mines. He loves North Creek and has been working very well with the town recently. Welcome back, Chuck! It is nice to see a Barton back in town!

The garden is looking great too. The asters are just coming out and the garnet colored dalais (I could not resist) have finally decided to bloom. One special delight in taking a garden walk is the beautiful white bearded iris. I bought them about three years ago and this is the first time one has bloomed in the fall.

Our next project is to finish the rock garden. I hope to at least get some of the plants in this fall. I hope you will go visit our garden. It is worth the trip and can help give you peace of mind and some tranquil time.
