Lake group opposed DEC plan

"The DEC is fundamentally wrong that the carry-in/carry-out system used in the rest of the Forest Preserve is appropriate for Lake George" said Bauer. "On the Lake George islands, the powerboat functions like an automobile or RV at an Intensive Use state campground like Rogers Rock and Hearthstone Point. For obvious reasons these Intensive Use areas and all the other such areas in the Adirondack Park are not carry-in/carry-out."

"We see this decision as causing a strain on local governments because their municipal trash disposal systems at shoreline facilities up and down the lake will be overwhelmed, especially places such as Mossy Point or Hague Boat launch as well as public dock areas in Bolton or Lake George. Shoreline residents and businesses will also see increased dumping" said Navitsky.

Ideas that have been floated include a surcharge for garbage collection for all reservations for the Lake George Islands campsites.
