Events and activities in the hill towns

The Thurman Emergency Squad has recently welcomed some new members - and this group of dedicated individuals is always looking for more volunteers to help out in the community. The next meeting open to the public will be held Sunday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. at the squad building on High Street. Volunteers age 18 and older can join as senior members, and those who are age 14 or older are eligible to become junior members. For more information, call 623-4254.

The Thurman Town Board will hold its monthly fiscal meeting, open to the public, Monday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the town hall.

The regular meeting of the town board is to be held Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. and everyone is welcome to attend. The routine public comment period gives all a chance to voice problems, praise or suggestions. To double-check these meeting dates in case of an unanticipated change, call 623-9649 or 623-4588.

A rabies clinic will be held from 10 a.m to noon Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Thurman firehouse. Bring your pets on leashes or in carriers.

The Gleaning food distribution will occur at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, in the Thurman Town Hall. Bring clean used grocery bags to take the food home. For details, call 623-9649.

The free Senior Bus will run Friday, Sept. 24 to Glens Falls for shopping or for appointments for all seniors age 60 and older. Call Laura at 623-9281 to reserve your seat.

The Thurman Connection Snowmobile Club is to meet at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, in the town hall. Meetings are open to the public and volunteers are always needed to help clear brush from the trails. For details on joining this safe-driving club, call Doug at 623-9234.
