Members of the Vermont food industry will gather in the Burlington area Sept. 24-26 for the annual Vermont food industry convention and exposition. The event will take place at the Sheraton Burlington Hotel and Champlain Valley Exposition.
The annual Vermont's Best Bagger competition on Saturday, Sept. 25, is always a highlight and a lot of fun. Fun will take on an extra bipartisan dimension this year with the two leading candidates for governor, Brian Dubie and Peter Shumlin, agreeing to a "bag off" following the state championship contest at 1 p.m. The event will take place at the expo hall at Miller South.
Several of the state's food retailers will have their best baggers on hand to compete for the state title and opportunity to represent Vermont at the national competition in Las Vegas this coming winter, which will begin at 11:30. Last year's winner was Dawn Tye of Hannaford.
The two major candidates for secretary of state, Jason Gibbs and Jim Condos, will join state senator and grocer, Dick Mazza, as official judges for the state competition and Celebrity Bag Off between Dubie and Shumlin.
The Expo will feature a wide array of products and services for all food and beverage retailers with over 140 exhibit booths, including a number of Vermont specialty food producers. The annual convention gives members of the food industry ample opportunities to network and share ideas.
