PRIDE secures grants for Ticonderoga

TICONDEROGA - A pair of grants will assist Ticonderoga residents.

PRIDE of Ticonderoga has secured $387,000 to improve the downtown and another $300,000 for home repairs.

The New York Main Street Grant award comes at an ideal time, according to Sharon Reynolds, PRIDE executive director.

"We have 24 applications on file for participation in this grant program and though we will not be able to help all 24, we will make a significant impact for our downtown," she said. "Letters have been sent to all our applicants to inform them of the award and to explain the procedures moving forward."

The grant will allow fa ade, interior and exterior repairs and updates. The New York Main Street grant also includes streetscape renovation to the Moses Circle area around the monument in Ticonderoga.

"As a major gateway to the downtown from both the southern and northern communities, it is important that we address how our pedestrians and motorists move around this historic place," Reynolds said.

The work will follow the community's Streetscape Plan, which was developed by Elan Planning and Design through the Ticonderoga Montcalm Street Partnership.

The Ticonderoga Destination Master Plan and the Ticonderoga Comprehensive Plan will also be used in the downtown renovation project.

The New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal HOME grant is for eligible single-family home owners in Ticonderoga.

"This award was unique for DHCR as they awarded only a few of these grants and only to organizations that demonstrated exceptional administration of past HOME grants and whose demographics remained unchanged," Reynolds said.

The grant is expected to support the renovation of 12 homes, ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 in repairs, in the upcoming year. With a waiting list dating back to 2007, the grant should address all of the 2007 applicants and some of the 2008 applicants.
