Superstars of spirit!

Meet Capricia Burbo, Cynthia Holler, Katelynn Viau, and Jennifer Cunningham of Vergennes Union High School. These spirited school cheerleaders attended a big cheer camp sponsored by the National Cheerleading Association in June. The quartet spent the summer focusing their efforts on the new school year but are now coordinating several important fundraising projects that will help send them to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City in November.

When the girls returned home from camp, they came back with a distinct honor to their credit-they had been nominated to be All-American Cheerleaders by association camp leaders.

But with the All-American honors were attached just a few strings: the girls have to earn their way to perform during the Macy's parade. It's a big deal since millions of network television viewers, coast-to-coast, will be watching new talent in the parade including the "VUHS Four".

The girls planned performance will be broadcast on NBC-TV Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, so there isn't much time left for raising the needed funds. For the cheerleaders to be able to go on the trip, they will need to raise a staggering $12,000.

While attending the camp, the girls earned kudos for demonstrating superior leadership, dance, stunts, tumbling and jump skills. The nomination was an honor especially on a national level-cheerleading has become one the fastest growing sporting activities in the U.S. and while many are called, few are chosen.

"As a result of this nomination they have been selected to perform with the best cheerleaders and dancers at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade," said Katy Holler, mother of Cynthia Holler. "They need to raise $12,000. This will cover train travel, six nights and seven days in New York, dance class with one of New York's most noted choreographers and dancers, a professionally choreographed performance routine, a Big Apple City tour, an Empire State Building tour, a Broadway Show, a show at the Radio City Music Hall featuring the Rockettes, subway travel while in New York, a NCA National Cheerleading uniform, team jacket, commemorative sweatshirt, commemorative DVD of the week, and chaperones."
