Moriah to rely on speed this season

PORT HENRY - The Moriah soccer team is hoping to utilize its speed this season.

The Vikings will be one of the fastest teams in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference, Coach Jeanette Rotella said.

"Hopefully, with the speed we have, we can score some goals," Rotella said. "We have some talent; the girls just need to remember that once the games start.

"We're looking forward to a fun season," she added.

Moriah lost 11 players to graduation, but return 10 booters to the squad.

Hayley Waldron returns to give the Vikings a veteran goaltender.

She'll be helped by a veteran defense that features returnees Hailey Chapuk, Emily Cutting, Kayla Woods, Cori White and Caitlin Williams.

New to the defense are Stephanie Mauran, Erica Baker, Heather Curran, Sara Rancour, Courtney Carson and Sara Slattery.

The Vikings have Jordan Larouche, Natasha Pratt, Lauren Pelkey and Santana Martinez returning at forward.

They're joined by rookies Jasmine Callis, Amanda French, Whitney Salerno, Samantha Wright and Ariele White.

"We're rebuilding the program," Rotella said. "It should be a good season."
