September 2010 extended our string of months with above normal temperatures to nine with only a light frost on the 21st to give a hint of things to come.
The average high temperature was 70.6 degrees and the average low was 50.1 degrees, giving us an average temperature of 60.4 degrees - 1.9 degrees above normal. This was only the seventh month of September when the average temperature exceeded 60 degrees. The highest temperature of 88 degrees was recorded on the 2nd and the lowest temperature of 34 degrees was recorded on the 21st. The average first frost (when the temperature reaches 32 degrees) was Sept. 26, but in the last eight years it has been in October. There were 187 degree days bringing the seasonal total to 253.
Precipitation was 3.14 inches - 0.39 inches less than normal. Precipitation was measured on 12 days with the greatest amount of 1.13 inches recorded on the 29th. Our seasonal total is now 34.59 inches - 3.25 inches above the normal of 31.34 inches.
The river reached its highest level of 3.96 feet on the 26th and its lowest level of 2.85 feet on the 19th.
