Recent changes to the 'burgh
While I was disappointed last week to convert the 'burgh from U.S. Postal Home Delivery to Demand Drop in more than 100 locations throughout the city and town of Plattsburgh area, the response has been very positive by both advertisers and readers.
At an average cost of more than $2,200 per week to mail the 'burgh, the local economy was just not strong enough to support the additional delivery cost. I remain a strong believer in a home-delivered product, but recognizing the value of our free community papers, making them conveniently available will allow the paper to continue to provide its much needed service to the community.
Working with our editorial team, we are resolved to take some of the dollars not spent on postal costs and convert them into more news features and increase the page count making it well worth your while to secure a copy for your home weekly at one of the many locations throughout the community. It will take a few weeks for us to refine our list of drop locations and quantities needed, but once it is finalized we will make the list available in the paper weekly for your convenience.
Additionally, I want to remind everyone you can E-scribe to the 'burgh as well as any of our community publications and receive an e-mail notification as soon as the paper is posted on-line. For the benefit of our many advertisers, the paper will still be audited annually by Circulation Verification Council, thus insuring advertisers of our delivered quantities. CVC will also conduct the annual readership survey to gauge readers use and acceptance of the paper. Our free community papers have been audited by this independent third-party for 15 years, assuring advertisers of our distribution credibility.
