Police link Orwell man to Rutland drive-by shooting

On Oct. 15, at approximately 11:39 p.m, Vermont State Police troopers were alerted, via radio broadcast from Vermont State Police Rutland Dispatch, to be on the lookout for a silver Ford Expedition or similar type vehicle.

The broadcast also advised that the vehicle had been involved in a drive-by shooting at 43 Summer St. in Rutland City. At the time of this broadcast, VSP troopers started to assist Rutland Police Department with locating the vehicle.

A trooper was in the area on U.S. Route 4 in Castleton when he observed the a vehicle similar to the vehicle.

The Vermont State Police stopped the vehicle near Exit 4 in Castleton.

Eric Grenier, 28, of Orwell was the sole occupant and operator of the vehicle. He was arrest for criminal suspension of driver's license. The state police executed a search warrant on the motor vehicle.

The search warrant revealed a loaded 9mm Ruger handgun and a spent 9mm bullet casing inside of the vehicle. Also located in the vehicle was a mature marijuana plant and processed marijuana.

The Vermont State Police jailed Grenier at the Marble Valley Correctional Facility.
