On Oct. 13 at 11:19 p.m., members of the Vermont State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Middle Road near U.S. Route 7 in Clarendon.
Investigation revealed that 19-year-old Justin Gee of West Rutland was driving his 1998 Dodge Neon northbound when he activated his brakes to avoid a deer in the roadway. Gee reported that his brakes worked for a second and then failed, causing him to drive off of the roadway and head on into the start of a metal guardrail.
Gee was not injured, and was wearing his lap and shoulder belt while driving. Neither speed nor alcohol played a role in this crash.
