Timing as they say is everything. In January, Denton Publications launched a new publication called the 'burgh. Driven by local business inquiries to provide our weekly direct-mail publication service to the town and city of Plattsburgh and the PARC Development, the 'burgh concept was hatched and initiated Jan. 21. Despite being the middle of winter, early support of the paper was strong, but as time has passed and the economy worsened, financial support for the paper has waned.
Reaching more than 15,000 homes has a hefty price tag and without business support, the paper alone can no longer carry the substantial postage cost required each week. Many in the community recognize the value of this product. Its popularity among readers of all ages has been evident in the responses we have received from articles, number of fans on our Facebook page and input from advertisers using the paper as a marketing tool.
Starting with the Oct. 16 edition, the 'burgh will convert to "Demand Distribution" and be available for free at more than 100 locations throughout the Plattsburgh area. Also, the 'burgh will remain available via E-Scription, able to be sent directly to your e-mail. Don't forget, the entire paper may also be viewed at www.the-burgh.com.
Though the 'burgh will no longer be directly in your mailbox, the switch will have its benefits. Without being conscience of the mailing weight of the 'burgh, the publication will likely be adding pages, allowing it to better serve Plattsburgh area readers.
