Sam Earl recorded 15 saves in net for Keene.

NCCS 2, Saranac Lake 0

SARANAC LAKE - In one of the few CVAC boys soccer matches not postponed due to weather Oct. 1, the Red Storm could only hold off Northeastern Clinton for so long.

Saranac Lake battled the Cougars to a zero-all tie through the first half, thanks in large part to the strong defensive efforts of Pat McHugh and goalkeeper Ricky Schmidt, who finished with 11 saves.

Jamie Davison finally gave NCCS the lead nine minutes into the second half, however. Dylan Carter would add the insurance goal with three minutes left. Both were assisted by Logan Miller.

The Cougars finished with a 24-6 shot advantage.

Elizabethtown-Lewis 3, Crown Point 0

LEWIS - The Lions kept the pressure on and ultimately broke through against Crown Point in MVAC boys soccer Oct. 1.

Zack Denton connected late in the first half off a cross from Patrick Phillips to give Elizabethtown-Lewis the lead for good. Connor Apthorp and Tyler White each added goals in the second half, both coming off assists from Brody Hooper.

Max Mesones was busy in the Crown Point nets with 30 saves as the Lions mustered a 34-2 shot advantage for the match. ELCS goalkeeper Justin LaPier had two saves for the shutout.

Saranac Lake 2, Northwood 1

LAKE PLACID - The Red Storm got their second win of the season Oct. 2 with a non-league victory against Northwood School.

Max Calderone scored both Saranac Lake goals, both coming on direct kicks. His first goal came late in the first half. He scored again mid-way through the second half to give the Red Storm a 2-0 lead.

Sam Akins put Northwood on the board with less than three minutes left in regulation.

Ricky Schmidt nabbed 10 saves for Saranac Lake, which outshot Northwood by a narrow 13-12 margin.
