Tigers thump Patriots; Eagles winless at home

The Middlebury Union High football team remained undefeated on the season as they rolled past host Mount Anthony Union High 25-13. The Mount Abraham Union High Eagles, however, fell to 0-4 at home as Mill River Union High crushed the Eagles 38-2.

Middlebury 25, Mount Anthony 13

Junior running back Marshall Hastings had his best game of the season in pacing the Tigers to the win in this one. Hastings racked up 168 yards on 15 carries and the Tigers scored the last 13 points in pulling away for the victory.

Senior quarterback Brendan Burrell ran for a touchdown and tossed a 34-yard scoring strike to Patrick Foley. And Hastings had the clinching score with an eight-yard touchdown scamper late in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers have a huge Division II game this Friday night when they host the Champlain Valley Union High Redhawks.

Both teams are undefeated in the Division. The 5-0 Tigers are 3-0 in Division 11, with their other two wins coming over Division I Brattleboro and Mount Anthony. The Redhawks are 4-1 overall, 4-0 in league play and will come into this one off a 30-22 win over previously undefeated Rice Memorial.

The two teams are similar in many ways with potent running games. Both have quarterbacks who can beat with their running ability or throwing the ball. And both played hard hitting solid defense. A win here will go a long way toward solidifying a spot in the Division II playoffs. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

Mill River 38, Mount Abraham 2

It's been a battle for the Eagles at home this season and this past Saturday. Mill River dominated from start to finish in rolling the victory. Quarterback Tyler Wood and running back Adam Mackey lead the (3-2) Minuteman to the win. Wood passed for 117 yards and one touchdown, Mackey rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns.
