Woman in killed in U.S. Route 7 accident

Roberta Anderson, 68, of Addison died of massive internal injuries after the car she was driving collided with a second auto at the intersection of New Haven Road and U.S. Route 7 Oct. 4 at approximately 8:10 a.m. The road surface was dry and the weather clear at the time of the accident. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The second auto, driven by Laurie Byrne, 54, of Charlotte was southbound on Route 7. Anderson's car was eastbound on New Haven Road approaching Route 7.

According to Vermont State Police, witness statements and evidence at the scene revealed that Anderson did not stop at the intersection; the front of Byrne's auto collided with the front driver's side of Anderson's car.

Both drivers were transported to Fletcher Allen Hospital where Anderson died as a result of injuries sustained in this crash. Byrne received minor injuries.

Vermont State Police were assisted at the scene by the Vergennes Police Department, Vergennes and Ferrisburgh volunteer fire departments and the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad.
