Stephenson Lumber, Lincoln Logs committed to area communities

CHESTERTOWN - Established in 1985, Stephenson Lumber is committed to supplying the central and southern Adirondacks with quality building materials at competitive prices.

But that's only half the story.

The company's owners are proud to support the local communities, through offering a variety of employment opportunities and lending support to a variety of community efforts and causes.

They also have been a pivotal force in the local economy, as they rescued a series of bankrupt businesses over the years and turned them into thriving enterprises through prudent financial management and attending to the needs of their customers and employees.

Most recently, the Stephenson family acquired Original Lincoln Log Homes, and Riverside Truss, Inc. in January 2009 and breathed new life into them, while maintaining much-needed solid jobs for local workers.

Stephenson's Lumber's three retail stores are located in northern Warren County and Hamilton County.

The Chestertown store is located at 6268 state Rte. 9, the store in Speculator is at 2709 state Rte. 8, and the Indian Lake store is at 15 Pelon Rd. The stores, affiliated with the True Value franchise, carry a full line of hardware and home improvement products. Their phone numbers are 494-2471, 548-7521 and 698-5050 respectively.

Larry Stephenson, the patriarch of the family, graduated from SUNY at Buffalo with a degree in Business Administration.

The Stephenson family employs 33 people at Stephenson Lumber and 21 people at Original Lincoln Log Homes. Erin Brothers, Stephenson's daughter, works with Larry at Lincoln Logs, which has its headquarters and plant on Rte. 8 in Chestertown, and a model home in Warrensburg on 35 Prosser Rd.

Larry Stephenson said this week that the lumber and log home businesses present a challenge due to the seasonality of the trade - and slowdowns due to economic downturns.

Stephenson noted that the economy is now gaining momentum and his companies are well-positioned to meet the needs of area citizens and enterprises as residential and commercial development accelerates.

Larry Stephenson noted he is proud that his entrerprises are committed to being a vital part of area communities and considers himself very fortunate to live in this area. Details on Stephenson Lumber can be found at: www.Stephenson lumber.com.
