Lady Eagles still flying high

WESTPORT - The Westport girls dominated both the MVAC and Class D last year, suffering their only loss in the regional playoffs to Section X's Harrisville. This year, with five players returning, they remain a force to be reckoned with.

The Eagles lost four players to graduation, including MVAC co-MVP Martha McKinley.

Her sister, junior Willa McKinley, with whom Martha shared the award last year, and senior Christina Sherman, an All-Star at point guard last year, return to lead the defending champions.

Seniors Nancy Armitage and Molly Rascoe also return, as does junior guard Allison Sherman, who gave Westport a good spark off the bench last year.

Juniors Karlee McGee, Mallory Sudduth and Emily French, along with promising freshman Brendee Russell, will give the Eagles plenty of depth.

"My expectations for the team this year are that we compete with honor every night," said Westport head coach Hokey McKinley.
