Crown Point charged

A local man has been charged with intentionally setting fire to a Crown Point Central School dugout, causing hundreds of dollars in damage.

State police have accused Trevor Gould of causing about $2,500 in damage.

Police arrested the 20-year-old on a felony charge of fourth-degree arson and a misdemeanor count of third-degree criminal trespass. The fire was in June, but the arrest was made Nov. 18.

Gould is a former student at Crown Point Central.

Schroon man arrested

A Schroon man was jailed Nov. 19 for allegedly burglarizing a home in Schroon over the summer, police records show.

Joseph W. Welch, 29, was charged with second-degree burglary in connection with a home break-in that was reported on Sept. 1.

He is accused of breaking into the home of an acquaintance, but it was unclear if anything was stolen.

Welch was sent to Essex County Jail without bail. He has to prior felony convictions, for attempted robbery in Pottersville in 1999 and felony driving while intoxicated in Essex County in 2006, state corrections records show.
