AVCS girls shooting for title

CLINTONVILLE - With eight players returning from last year's 14-6 team, the AuSable Valley girls are once again looking to challenge the best teams in the CVAC.

The Patriots captured Division II once again last year, advancing to the Class B semifinals before being defeated in the sectional playoffs. Head coach Roger Long said the Patriots are primed to again win their division and compete for a sectional title.

"We need to stay healthy, hungry, and committed to team to pull off those two goals," he said.

Senior Alexis Coolidge, a 5'11" forward and first-team CVAC All-Star the past two seasons, returns to anchor a solid starting lineup for the Patriots. Fellow seniors Kayla Taylor and Savannah Douglas and junior forward Alexis Facteau have all been key for AuSable Valley in past seasons and will start as well. They will be joined by eighth-grader Meghan Strong, a prodigious 5'2" guard.

Seniors Alex Casey and Carlee Hart and juniors Cammey Keyser and Alexis Ryan return to provide solid depth. Juniors Megan Colby and Taylor Bordeau, together with freshman Taylor Saltus, move up to the varsity level this year and will rotate into the guard positions.
