With the busy season approaching we all must remember to have new batteries in our home smoke alarms, in all of our flashlights, and check our heating fuel oil supply. Those who need help in accomplishing these tasks, call 623-9710 or 623-2580.

A food pantry is open at the Town Hall during regular office hours. If you and your family are in need of a helping hand at this time, don't hesitate to stop by and ask for some food supplies to tide you over. When your ship comes in you can always bring something back to the pantry to help others. For details, call 623-4588 or 623-9649.

The Samaritan's Purse shoe boxes filled locally total 17 from Thurman this year, and the total from the Warrensburg area, which includes Thurman, is 63.

The Samaritan's Purse effort is to brighten the Christmases of children otherwise forgotten during the holiday season. The shoe boxes are filled with gifts and school supplies. The local organizers of the charity are hoping that more people in Thurman will join the effort next fall. Those with questions, call 623-2335.

Local Christmas charity seeking volunteers

Folks are asking for your help before in getting Christmas baskets ready. Organizers of this traditional local charity would like to know of those who will be alone for the Christmas holidays - they don't want anyone in Thurman to feel alone during this season, no matter their age! Those who know of a friend or neighbor who might be alone, or someone who has been recently placed in a nursing home, call 623-2580 or 623-9718 and share the information.

Please note that Christmas Baskets will be packed on Friday, Dec. 10 at the Town Hall beginning at 9 a.m., with the rain date being changed to Saturday, Dec. 11 at the Thurman Emergency Squad Building on High St. home-baked goods to be included in these baskets can be dropped off Thursday or Friday Dec. 9 or 10 at the Thurman Town Hall.
