Lee Berube has again earned All-America honors.
The Ticonderoga High School graduate raced to eighth place at the NCAA Division III men's cross country championship race in Waverly, Iowa, Nov. 20 to secure the distinction for a third time.
Berube, a junior at SUNY-Geneseo, earned All-America recognition during the 2009-10 indoor tract season. Berube finished second in the 5,000-meter race at the NCAA Division III indoor track championships in Greencastle, Ind. He then ran a leg on Geneseo's distance medley relay team that finished eighth at the national championship meet. The top eight finishers in each event are named All America.
At the 5-mile national championship race Berube ran with the leaders throughout. He took the lead at three miles, but couldn't shake the pursuit. With a half mile remaining, the race race became a dead sprint to the finish.
Berube finished in 24 minutes, 33 seconds. Haverford College's Anders Hulleberg won the race in 24:22.2.
Lee Gabler of Ticonderoga, also running for SUNY-Geneseo, finished 201st in the race in 26:10.
The Geneseo team placed seventh in the race.
Berube picked up another honor before the race.
He was named United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Atlantic Region Men's Athlete of the Year.
Berube won the Atlantic Region individual title with a course-record time of 24:28 over eight kilometers at Fortin Park in Oneonta Nov. 13 after taking the State University of New York Athletic Conference individual title at Oswego Oct. 30.
Berube won the state Class D cross county championship while at Ti High.
