TL chamber kicks off holiday shopping Nov. 27 with new event

TUPPER LAKE - The Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce will kick off the holiday shopping season on Saturday, Nov. 27, with an all-day celebration that will include a free movie at the State Theater, a visit from Santa Claus and a tree-lighting ceremony at the new Chad Martin Memorial Park.

The event - "Shop Tupper Lake for the Holidays" - will begin at 9 a.m. with shopping and sidewalk sales and run through 6 p.m. There will be free cider and cookies all day at the chamber office at 121 Park St. and at Larkin's Junction Deli on Main Street. The new Tupper Lake Holiday Ornament will be available at the chamber. The State Theater will offer a free showing of the movie "Elf" at 10 a.m. And, the VFW and Kiwanis Club will host "Santa and Lunch" from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus.

"We really want to showcase our businesses with this new event and create a holiday atmosphere while enticing residents to shop more at home and offering a unique treat for visitors," said Doug Wright, chairman of the chamber's New Initiatives Committee.

At noon, judging will begin for the new Holiday Windows on Park Contest, in which individuals and groups adopted empty storefront windows along Park Street and in the Junction and decorated them for the holidays. The winners will be announced at 5 p.m. at the Chad Martin Memorial Park at the corner of Park and Mill streets, with the official tree-lighting ceremony to follow.
