Nov. 14, at approximately 9:15 a.m., a hunter discovered human remains in a wooded area off from the Appalachian Trail in Mendon, Vt. A Vermont State Police investigator responded to this location along with a warden from Vermont Fish and Wildlife. A search of the area was conducted and other remains and items of investigative interest were located.
The skeletal remains that were collected at the scene, have been sent to the Office of the Vermont Chief Medical Examiner for identification and determination of cause and manner of death. A further search of this area is currently scheduled in an attempt to locate additional remains.
Investigators are exploring the possibility that these remains could be those of Robert Servian who was reported missing from Sarasota, Fla., in April. The Vermont State Police became involved in this investigation in May of 2010 when Servian's vehicle was found abandoned in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn in Rutland Town, Vt. Since that time, State Police detectives have been working with the authorities in Sarasota in attempting to locate Servian.
Foul play is not suspected at this time and the investigation is continuing.
