Ticonderoga dog park officially opens

TICONDEROGA - The Ticonderoga Dog Park is open.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony Nov. 4 officially opened the doggy playground, located on Lord Howe Street just north of Lake George along the LaChute River. "It's a perfect spot," said Lynda Mackey, who led the effort to create a dog park. "There are a lot of people who are anxious to use this park. It's a great setting."

There is a need for a dog park in Ticonderoga, Mackey explained. Many people have small yards that don't provide enough space for dogs. There are also visitors to the the community who need a place to exercise their pets, she said.

Mackey, a dog owner and enthusiast, approached the town board two years ago with the idea of a dog park. The town leaders gave her permission to use the land and she secured donations of materials and money. She stressed no taxpayer money was used in the project.

Mackey said Lowe's donated $1,200 in fencing and supplies with the assistance of store manager Rick Osier, Quikrete Cement Co. donated the cement, Frank Bangma of Bangma Signs donated the signs and Master Halco Fence Co. sold the fencing at a reduced price.

Making monetary donations were Amy Reale, Lynda Mackey, Mary Ann Andrushko, Mary Lou Doulin, Julie Dennison, Charlie Parlin, Barb & Phil McLaughlin, Lynn McDonald, Laval Thibodeau, Wal-Mart and others.

Volunteers included Erin Burke, Mike Provencher, Eric Stoddard, Scott Stockwell, Shauna Palmer, Charlie Eisenberg, Brad Harrington, Kevin O'Hara, Ed Vosburg, Jerry Reed, Sarah Aunchman, Danielle Johnson, Ted Jacques, Todd Bilow, T.J. Bilow, Dillon Crowe, Mary Ann Andrushko, Keely Andrushko, Pam Savage, Ted Savage, Dave Ferris, Sean Mackey, Briton Laslow, Jerid Vilardo, Devon Slattery, Hans Rettig, Francine Carson,Joyce Namer, Jim Leavens, Bob Colburn, Heather York, Rick Boutelle, Brendon Lesperance, Perry O'Neil, Natalie O'Neil, John Wade, John Sharkey, Pat Armstrong, Hugh Mackey, and Thomas Malaney.
