Girl Scouts collecting

TICONDEROGA - Area Girl Scouts are collecting items for American troops overseas.

Scouts are seeking: disposable razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, "Germ X (antibacterial soap), hair brushes, AA batteries, baby wipes, t-shirts, tube socks, briefs - various size, small cans of tuna, sardines, canned beef stew, canned soup, ramon noodles, noodle cups, candy bars, hard candy and individually wrapped cheese & crackers and peanut butter crackers.

Collections boxes have been left at George's and Bouyea's in Moriah. For further information or pick up in Moriah contact Ann Arno at 942-7091 or Heather Robbins at 570-0048.

Saturday, November 20th the girls will set up a station at Wal-Mart in Ticonderoga from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. to collect items as well. In Ticonderoga people can contact Christa Cole at 585-7791 , Melody Borho at 585-3384 or Debbie Barber at 585-6876.

The area girls have just started a scholarship fund which will go any area registered graduating senior.

"We are currently collecting bottles to help raise money for this fund," Barber said. "Anyone who would like to donate bottles can leave them at the redemption center and specify you would like to donate them to GSNENY Southern Essex County Girl Scouts."

Some scouts recently participated in their first Zumba class. A second class is planned for Friday, Dec. 10, from 6 - 7 p.m. It will be opened to both registered and non-registered girls. For more information call Barber at 585-6876.

The area girls have several other events which are currently in the planning stages this year, including taking to the water in December, a cookie kickoff on Jan. 2 with sales beginning on Jan. 3 and will be hitting the dance floor in February.

The area girl scouts are always looking for new members both girls and adults.
