The Middlebury Post Office offered a special pictorial postmark to celebrate the grand opening of the Cross Street Bridge Oct. 30.
On Saturday, USPS staff set up a table at the bridge from and sold envelopes and postcards with the one-time only postmark. At customer requests, they stamped letters and postcards with the unique postmark documenting the occasion.
Specially authorized by the U.S. Postal Service, this special postmark was a special way to take home an inexpensive souvenir of the event.
Customers can request the special postmark free-of-charge by mail for 30 days after the event by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope containing the letter or envelope they wish to be cancelled to: Postmaster, 10 Main St., Middlebury, Vt. 05753-9998.
"We will be happy to cancel and mail back any letters that our customers mail in," said Postmaster Alan Caton. "Customers may also bring in their own envelopes to obtain a postmark that they can take home as a keepsake."
For more information, customers may call Postmaster Alan Caton at 802-388-2681.
