CROWN POINT - Construction of a new Champlain Bridge in Crown Point will keep the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 15-13 busy this summer.
"With the help of neighboring flotilla, there will be patrols on Lake Champlain every weekend throughout the summer," said Bob Vannier of the local auxiliary. " The intent is to lend assistance and promote safe passage through the congested area and answer any questions regarding traffic."
Vannier cautioned boaters should expect delays in the area because of the construction and the operation of two vehicle ferries.
The Crown Point-based flotilla will also present a safe boating class June 19 at the Ticonderoga Elks. Information is available by calling 585-2128.
The auxiliary will assist the Elks June 5 at the Ticonderoga boat launch during the Elks annual youth fishing tournament.
Members of the flotilla will provide a color guard for cemetery observances in Crown Point on Memorial day. The group will hold a special maritime remembrance at the Putnam Creek Bridge as part of the activity.
Vanner said the flotilla always welcomes new members.
