Minerva-Newcomb boys remain undefeated, Indian Lake/Long Lake girls win sixth straight

WILLSBORO - Nick Ball and Clay Sherman had two hits each as the Warriors improved their overall record to 7-2 with a MVAC nonleague win over the Jaguars on May 6.

David Gowans added a triple and two RBI, while Alex Shepard chipped in with a double and two RBI for Willsboro.

Kevin Conner collected two of Johnsburg's four hits. The Jaguars had to be patient at the plate, working out 12 walks by Warrior pitching.

Minerva-Newcomb 5

Indian Lake - Long Lake 3

NEWCOMB - Tatsuki Miyozato led the undefeated Mountaineers past the Orange on May 6.

Miyozato accounted for a double and home run at the plate and earned the save.

He was also key in a triple play in the first inning. Playing at shortstop, Miyozato fielded the ball on a short hop, tagged the runner going to third and the one going to second and threw to first for the third out.

Morgan Winslow went 3-for-3 for Minerva\Newcomb, while Zack Mitchell and Jordan Wallace had two hits each for the Orange.

Winning pitcher Brandon Poulton struck out 11 and walked seven.

Indian Lake-Long Lake 5

Bolton 4

INDIAN LAKE - Connor Burgess went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a triple as the Orange slipped past Bolton for their first win of the season on May 7.

Ben Black gave up five hits for his first victory on the mound, while Jordan Wallace doubled in the win.

Crown Point 9

Minerva-Newcomb 5

NEWCOMB - Nate Tabor's 20 strikeouts and five errors in the top of the ninth ended Minerva-Newcomb's perfect season on May 7.

All four of Crown Points' runs in the ninth inning were unearned. Tabor also went 5 for 5 from the plate.

Despite the loss Miyozato had another standout game striking out 15 batters and went 4 for 5 with two doubles for the Mountaineers. Brandon Poulton went 3 for 5 with a double in the loss.
