The Springfield U-14 soccer club recently competed in the Plattsburgh State College soccer tournament, finishing in fourth pace overall in a crowded field of teams. Playing on the artificial turf of Plattsburgh State College soccer complex, the Pumas pulled out a 3-1 win in their first match, before falling to Plattsburg, 2-1 in their second match. The Pumas then bounced back with an impressive 6-1 win.
In the semi-final match again eventual tournament winner, the Nordic Soccer Club from Burlington, the Pumas played tough and never gave up, before falling 6-1. Puma goals on the day came from Morgan Kathan (4 goals, 3 assists), Blakely Gilmore (1 goal, one assist), Sarah Rumrill (4 goals, 2 assists), Meghan Thomas (1 goal), Gabriele Miele (1 assist), Madeline Morse (1 goal) and Kendra Dana (1 goal).
"These girls came here last year and got schooled," coach Jeff Loche said after the tournament. "But this year we did a litle schooling of our own. I was impressed with our defense and and our ability to adjust as needed, to the different styles and teams we played."
