After-school program created

CROWN POINT - As a result of the Crown Point bridge closing, a new after school program has opened.

Families in Crown Point, who have been the most affected by the bridge closing, will now have the opportunity to enroll their children in structured after school activities.

Tara Treadway, the site supervisor for the program, feels this is a great opportunity for children to receive academic enrichment, positive social interaction and nutrition education that they wouldn't normally have.

The program provides daily activities for the children as well as time for physical activity.

Marge Zmijewski, Adirondack Community Action Program child care program manager, said the agency has been awarded funds through the state Office of Children and Family Services to address the need for expanded day care as a result of the bridge closing.

"It has been a community effort bringing this program to fruition. Parents, the school and OCFS have come together to make this work and were excited to see it up and running." Zmijewski said.
