Students challenge Ti teachers

TICONDEROGA - It will be a grudge match for the ages.

Ticonderoga High School's quiz bowl team has challenged teachers to a "Jeopardy Challenge."

The match will take place Tuesday, April 6, at 7 p.m. in the Ti High auditorium.

Admission is $1, which will be donated to Double H Ranch in Lake Luzerne.

Zach Pratt, a 2010 St. Michael's College graduate and University of Iowa Law School student will moderate the challenge. Pratt is a former member of the Sentinel quiz bowl squad.

Upholding the honor of the Ti faculty will be teachers Paul Jebb, Bob Sutphen, Maria Bagneschi, Amy Crannell and Jim Decker.

Quiz Bowl team captain Ben Chapman is preparing the student team.

The Ticonderoga High School quiz bowl team finished fourth the Post Star Academic Bowl this year, the fourth consecutive year the Sentinels have made it to the semi-final round of play.

In December, the Sentinels also participated in the Vermont NEA's PHAT III Tournament with two teams and won the small school trophy for the second year.

The 2009-2010 Sentinels were led by veteran players Chapman, Adriana Clark, Tory Walters, Christy Faucher and Andrew terSteege.

While four seniors will be graduating this June, the Sentinels now have a strong foundation of 12 underclassmen that will start the 2010-2011 season with experience and enthusiasm: Adriana Clark, Tory Walters, Keeley Andrushko, Andrew terSteege, Hannah Herbst, Markie teRiele, Ashley Costello, Anita Zhang, Hayli Carlson, Alan Zhang, Riley Chapman and Michael Fuller.

"The motto of Ticonderoga's team has always been 'We play for the ice cream,' but they also have a tradition of excellence, and the 2010 team is no exception," said Deb Breitenbach, team coach.
