MONTPELIER-A majority of Vermont legislators voted to increase the tax burden on Vermont-based manufactures, farmers, and contractors by $9 million over the next two years.
The House bill, known as H. 783, is titled "An Act Relating to Miscellaneous Tax Provisions"; it was passed by the Vermont House March 25 and includes new tax burdens-not tax relief-on Vermont's already struggling small business community.
The vote was 92-49 in favor of H. 783 and the tax increase.
