Guys and Dolls to be staged in Rutland

RUTLAND-The Marble Valley Players will hold open auditions for their summer musical production of "Guys and Dolls" by Frank Loesser and Abe Burrows. Production dates are July 16-18 at the Paramount Theater in Rutland.

This 1950 classic is widely regarded as the paradigm for a well-made musical comedy. It is regularly revived, most recently on Broadway in 1992. The book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, is based on "The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown" and "Blood Pressure", two short stories by Damon Runyon.

The musical centers on two couples with tumultuous relationships. High-stakes gambler, Sky Masterson, who tries to seduce stern missionary Sarah Brown so he can win a bet. And nightclub dancer, Miss Adelaide, who attempts to get her fiance of 14 years, craps game organizer Nathan Detroit, to finally tie the knot. With a knockout score including such upbeat hits as the title number, "Luck Be a Lady" "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat," and "A Bushel and a Peck", this show is classic American musical theater at its best.

A hugh cast of singers, dancers and actors of all ages is needed. Vocal/reading auditions will be held at the Dana Rec. Center Room 13, 6:30-9 p.m., on April 1, April 7, and April 8. Dance auditions will be on April 10, 3:30-7:30 p.m. in the Dana Gym.

Prepare a song (preferably not from the show) which best demonstrates your range and bring the sheet music as well.
