Cronk's Corner - North Countryman to get new readers

Since the early '80s, the Clinton County Free Trader Today, a weekly publication of Denton Publications, has been mailed to homes in Dannemora, Saranac, Cadyville, Morrisonville, Peru and Schuyler Falls. However, come April 3, those residents will be receiving the historic North Countryman in its place.

The decision to combine the two papers, under the North Countryman name came as a way for the papers to operate more efficiently, and at a benefit to our advertisers - who will be able to reach more than 16,000 homes with the direct-mail publication, instead of having to advertise in two separate papers.

The North Countryman was chosen as the new paper's name simply because of its long-standing history in the Northern Tier. Since its beginning in March 1928, the newspaper has been the weekly paper the communities identified with. Now, it is our hope our neighbors will come to love the publication as much as our current readers.

I believe the combining of the papers will be a smooth transition, and one that will benefit all the readers. As a resident of Cadyville, I receive the Clinton County Free Trader Today, yet I'm often interested in various events happening in communities such as Champlain or Chazy, and not just because that's the territory I write for, but because I have found those towns truly take pride in what they do.

Clinton County may be spread out over a wide distance, but many of the same stories important to people in Saranac or Peru may be just as important to those in the north.

Although the joint publication will be under the name North Countryman, there will still be some very noticeable changes.

The new paper will be a more user-friendly and readable format, measuring roughly 10 inches tall by 11 inches wide. This new look will not only be eye-catching, but eco-friendly as well - saving 30 percent in paper.

We're also working hard to come up with new ways to make the publication stand out when you receive it in the mail or pick it up in one of your favorite hometown businesses.

The new publication is something we here at Denton Publications are extremely excited about, and we hope you will be as well.
